Movies today are produced in very complex studios and edited in a multi channel
format. The most popular is still 5.1. The first digit 5 represents the
number of speakers. Left, Center, Right and two rears The point (.1) indicates the LFE (Low Frequency Effect) or Subwoofer.
The left and Right front channel are the main effect speakers. The Center channel is the dialog, and the Rear surrounds are the ambient or effect speakers.
Surround Sound systems come in many types of packages. From the
entry level Home Theater in a box to separate high end systems with top of the line audio and video processing and high powered amps. Surround sound systems can be set up in all types of rooms. The downside is that not all rooms are properly set up for surround sound systems. In many new homes the TV's are corner loaded making it very difficult to locate the left, center and right speakers. If the TV is located on an end wall many times there is no side or rear walls making it difficult to locate the rear channels or surround speakers forcing us to locate them in the ceiling. And in any case if the room is an existing room pulling wire to some locations poses even more problems. Whatever the situation the results can be very enjoyable. For those of you who must have an un-compromised
experience maybe you should consider a dedicated Home Theater.
